SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis team took care of business Friday at the Mustang Tennis Complex, coasting to a 7-0 victory over Big West foe UC Riverside.
The Mustangs (10-8, 5-3 Big West) won all six singles matches in straight sets to storm past the Highlanders (4-18, 0-8 Big West).
Fifth year Delanie Dunkle and sophomore Kennedy Buntrock both went undefeated in singles and doubles during the dual.
Cal Poly opened the match in commanding fashion, securing the doubles point for the 13th time this season. After a slow start, Delanie and junior Peyton Dunkle caught fire and rolled to a 6-2 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot, improving to 12-3 on the season and 5-1 in Big West play. Then Buntrock and junior Eliza Bates clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph at No. 3, moving to 7-1 together this spring and 6-1 in conference play. It was also the seventh straight victory for Buntrock and Bates.
With the victory, Delanie is just one win away from tying Chelsy Thompson and Brittany Blalock for the most career dual doubles wins in Division I program history (54).
In singles, Delanie made quick work of her opponent at No. 1, winning 6-0, 6-1. Junior Romane Mosse secured her 11th consecutive singles victory, cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot to move to 14-4 on the season and 7-1 in Big West play. In her second career singles match, sophomore Sarah MacCallum grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot to clinch the dual for the Mustangs.
Buntrock ran away with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 spot to improve to 10-6 this spring. Graduate student Melissa LaMette and sophomore Alexandra Ozerets both won first set tiebreaks in their matches before dominating in the second set. Ozerets won 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 in her second career match at the No. 2 spot, improving to 12-6 this year and 6-2 in conference play. LaMette secured the 7-0 sweep for the Mustangs with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 victory at No. 4.
