Mustangs Shutout DePaul 7-0 in Home Opener

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – It took longer to have a home opener than they originally anticipated but Cal Poly men's tennis couldn't have asked for a better start to its home season, shutting out DePaul 7-0 Friday at Mustang Tennis Complex.
In doubles, the Blue Demons had a player fall ill and were forced to forfeit the No. 3 spot to Cal Poly. Needing just one more win, the Mustangs' No. 1 duo of Colter Smith and Bastiaan Weststrate won their match 6-3 to clinch the doubles point.
Cal Poly started singles with a 2-0 lead after DePaul was also forced to forfeit at the No. 6 spot in singles. Freshman Sean Kamyshev gave the Mustangs a 3-0 lead after winning at the No. 5 spot 6-2, 6-4.
Senior Noah Berry officially clinched the victory for Cal Poly after winning his match at the No. 1 spot 6-4, 6-4.
Also collecting singles wins on the day were Joe Leather and Fernando Fonseca to round out the 7-0 victory.
The Mustangs will host Grand Canyon Sunday at 10 a.m. at Mustang Tennis Complex.
