Mustangs End First Weekend at Home with Win Over Grand Canyon

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – After having to wait a while to finally have its first home matches, Cal Poly men's tennis finished its opening home weekend strong Sunday, beating Grand Canyon 4-1 at Mustang Tennis Complex.
The Mustangs (4-4) started off the dual by taking the doubles point. The No. 2 duo of Raz Haviv and Sean Kamyshev started it off by winning their match 6-3. The No. 3 pair of Noah Berry and Joe Leather then won their match via tiebreaker 7-6(4).
In singles, Cal Poly quickly went ahead 2-0 after Berry's opponent at the No. 1 spot had to retire in the first set.
After the Lopes got on the board with a win at the No. 3 spot, Cal Poly extended its lead to 3-1 after Kamyshev won his match at the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-3. The win was then clinched by Weststrate at the No. 5 spot after winning his match, 7-5, 6-1.
Cal Poly will remain at home next week to host Rice on Thursday and LMU on Saturday. Both matches start at 12 p.m. at Mustang Tennis Complex.
