Mustangs Finish The Goodwin Saturday in Strong Fashion

FINAL RESULTS: TEAM | INDIVIDUAL
SAN FRANCISCO – With four Mustangs firing even par or better to close action at The Goodwin Saturday afternoon, the Cal Poly men's golf program improved five positions in the team standings, finishing tournament action in 14th position.
With action hosted by Stanford at the par-70, 7,193-yard TPC Harding Park, graduate student Ben Quick carded a one-over 71 Saturday to finish as Cal Poly's low scorer for the tournament. Completing play in 23rd place, Quick closed with a two-over 212 (70-71-71).
With three birdies Saturday, junior Baron Szeto produced an even-par 70, reaching 55th spot – an improvement of 12 positions – on the leaderboard with a six-over 216 (72-74-70).
After climbing 71 positions on the leaderboard Friday, senior Joey Zambri finished 68th with an eight-over 218 (75-69-74). His four-over 74 Saturday to close tournament action included two birdies.
Cal Poly's top mover Saturday was junior Jackson Parrish, whose final-round 69 was built with five birdies. Jumping 39 spots Saturday, Parrish finished 92nd with a 10-over 220 (75-76-69). Cal Poly's final entrant in the team competition, junior Parker Mapes, balanced one birdie against one bogey for a final-round 70 and a three-day total of 223 (75-78-70).
Competing as an independent, freshman Louis Pilod earned two birdies Saturday en route to a two-over 72. He finished in 60th position with a seven-over 217 (73-72-72). Also playing as an individual, graduate student Austin Liu produced three birdies Saturday for his best round of the tournament, an even-par 70.
As a program, Cal Poly's final-round 280 marked an even-par showing. A three-round, 22-over 862 helped the Mustangs climb five spots among the field's 31 programs and into 14th place.
Cal Poly's final tournament ahead of the April 28-30 Big West Championship comes at the April 12-14 El Macero Classic, hosted by UC Davis at Sacramento's El Macero Country Club.
