THE GOODWIN TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
SAN FRANCISCO – Graduate student Ben Quick (above) finished as the Cal Poly men's golf program's low scorer with an even-par 70 and just four strokes off the top of the leaderboard as the Mustangs completed first round action Thursday at The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford at TPC Harding Park
Playing the par-70, 7,193-yard course, Quick – tied for 21st – produced three birdies in the even-par effort and trails leader Jonathan Nielsen of Clemson by the four strokes.
Fellow graduate student Austin Liu also enjoyed three birdies, but with four bogeys he carded a one-over 71 for a share of 28th position.
A shot behind Liu, junior Baron Szeto's two-over 72 included a pair of birdies to reach 45th on the leaderboard.
Despite both recording two birdies, senior Joey Zambri and junior Jackson Parrish each finished with five-over 75s, alongside junior Parker Mapes. All three own a share of 115th place in the 168-player field.
Competing as an individual, freshman Louis Pilod chalked up three birdies as part of a three-over 73 to sit in 68th spot.
As a team, Cal Poly's 12-over 292 placed the Mustangs in 18th place among the field's 31 programs.
Second-round action at The Goodwin resumes Friday morning. Play concludes Saturday, March 30 with the final 18 holes.
