Mustangs Come up Just Short Against No. 42 Oregon, 4-3

SAN DIEGO — Cal Poly men's tennis players Joe Leather, Fernando Fonseca and Sean Kamyshev each picked up singles wins but the Mustangs fell just short of upsetting No. 42 Oregon Saturday in San Diego, 4-3.
The No. 42 Ducks (6-1) took the doubles point to start the match after winning at spots one and three.
In singles, Oregon took a 2-0 lead before Leather was able to win his match at the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-4 to get Cal Poly on the board.
After the Ducks won another singles match to stretch the lead to 3-1, Cal Poly came fighting back to tie it 3-3 following three-set wins by Fonseca at the No. 4 spot and Kamyshev at the No. 6 spot.
However, Oregon came out on top in the third set of the final singles match going on at the No. 2 spot as Colter Smith was defeated by David Cierny 6-1, 6-7, 6-2.
The Mustangs head up to the Bay Area next week to face University of San Francisco March 1 and Santa Clara March 2.
