Mustangs Start Season 5-0 for First Time Since 2005

During their second double-digit scoring game of the weekend, the Mustangs continued their impressive run with another victory over Saint Mary's. With three straight hits to open the game, Cal Poly got on the scoreboard quickly thanks to Jessica Clements' double and Xiara Diaz's follow-up RBI.
Kate Judy made her third start of the weekend, striking out another three batters through just as many innings of work while only allowing one unearned run. The third inning was also one to remember for the offense, as Cal Poly ran through the entire lineup while tacking on seven runs. Kiara Blanchard, Mylina Garza, Kai Barrett, Juju Sargent, and Jessica Clements all tallied RBIs, including pairs of them from Blanchard and Barrett.
Despite a small, 3-run push from Saint Mary's in the third inning, Blanchard improved her team-lead of RBIs to 9 with another score while Sargent also helped the lead with one of her own. To cap off the 13-6 victory, senior infielder Mia Perez hit both her first career home run and Cal Poly's first of the season.
Through a historic weekend of Mustang softball, Jessica Clements leads the team and Big West Conference in hitting (9-for-16, .563 avg) with Kiara Blanchard first on the team with 9 RBI. Kate Judy put in 15 inning of work through three starts for a 2-0 record and conference-leading 14 strikeouts with a 1.40 ERA.
The Mustangs get a short but well-deserved break before heading back on the road Feb. 16-18 for the split-venue Silicon Valley Classic against Seattle, San Jose State, and Santa Clara.
