The Mustangs will have a new look this season under third year head coach Shanele Stires as the team has added seven players, including three starters, from a team that won 17 games, had a top four finish in the Big West, and made the WNIT for the first time in 10 years.
That includes Honorable Mention All-Big West honoree and last year’s second leading scorer in senior guard Annika Shah, redshirt sophomore forward Sierra Lichtie who was the fourth leading scorer last year, senior guard Sydney Bourland who started all 31 games last season, and sophomore Mary Carter who earned Big West All-Freshman Team honors.
Joining the cast of returners are eight newcomers, seven freshmen and a grad transfer. Ashley Hiraki is the lone transfer to join after spending the last four years at Santa Clara where she started 92 games and twice led the team in steals.
This will be the Mustangs first time playing Sonoma State University. Cal Poly will open their regular season against UC Merced on November 6th at 6 p.m. at Mott Athletics Center.
