Lichtie’s Double-Double Pushes Mustangs Past Sonoma State in Wednesday Exhibition
10/30/2024 2:51:00 PM | Women's Basketball
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Redshirt sophomore forward Sierra Lichtie notched a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds as the Cal Poly women's basketball team took down Sonoma State 57-46 in an exhibition game Wednesday in their final tune-up before the regular season begins next week.
Mott Athletics Center was packed Wednesday morning with over 2,000 fans, most of them local elementary school children as part of Field Trip Day. Senior guard Annika Shah also finished in double figures with 12 points as she knocked down four threes to help lead the Mustangs pull away in the second half as all 13 of Cal Poly's available players got in the game.
Despite a sloppy first half by the Mustangs that saw them trailing the Seawolves 28-27 at the half, Cal Poly tightened things up in the second half. The Mustangs began the third quarter with an 8-2 run as they held Sonoma State to six points in the quarter and took a 42-34 lead into the fourth.
A 9-1 run to open the fourth quarter pushed the Cal Poly lead up to 16 with seven minutes left to play to open up the game.
As a team, the Mustangs shot 46 percent from three, going 6-13. They also had 10 steals and forced Sonoma State into 18 turnovers.
