Mustangs Fall to East Tennessee State Saturday in Albuquerque
1/20/2024 7:18:00 PM | Men's Tennis
ALBUQUERQUE — Junior Bastiaan Weststrate picked up both a singles and doubles win but Cal Poly men's tennis fell to East Tennessee State 5-2 Saturday in Albuquerque in its second dual match of the season.
Weststrate teamed up with senior Colter Smith at the No. 1 doubles spot to grind out a 7-5 victory. At the No. 3 doubles spot, senior Noah Berry and sophomore Aaron Eliscu teamed up to win their match 6-4 and help secure the doubles point for the Mustangs (1-1).
Later in singles, earned a straight sets victory at the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-1. Weststrate went 2-0 this week for Cal Poly in both singles and doubles.
Despite Weststrate winning his match, the Mustangs were unable to gain points elsewhere as East Tennessee State, an NCAA Tournament team last season, got wins at all five other singles spots to win the match 5-2.
Cal Poly will now be off until Feb. 3 when they host LMU for the 2024 home opener at Mustang Tennis Complex.
