Huard’s Six TD Performance Earns Him Mechanics Bank Athlete of the Week Honor

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After tying the program record with six touchdown passes against Lincoln University on Saturday, Cal Poly redshirt sophomore quarterback Sam Huard has been named the Mechanics Bank Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
Huard's stellar record-tying performance saw him go 28-39 for 325 yards and six touchdowns to four different receivers – three of which were to Giancarlo Woods. He is the just the third quarterback in Cal Poly history to throw six touchdowns and the first since Tony Smith in 2009.
Huard helped lead the Mustangs (2-1) to a 41-20 home victory over Lincoln University and improve to 2-1 for the first time since 2016.
Through the first three games of the season, Huard has thrown for seven touchdowns which puts him atop the Big Sky and eighth nationally. He has also thrown for 759 yards which ranks second in the Big Sky.
Cal Poly begins Big Sky play this week on the road against Portland State Saturday. Kickoff from Hillsboro, OR is set for 1 p.m. with the game being available to watch on ESPN+ and listen to on ESPN Radio 1280 locally or GoPoly.com.
