COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman Louis Pilod (above) carded a second straight 69 and third successive round under 70 Tuesday to finish in a three-way tie for first at Air Force's 54th annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, becoming just the second Mustang in eight years with a first-place tournament finish.
With the Falcon Invitational comprising both a team and individual competition on the Eisenhower Golf Course, Pilod – playing his first collegiate tournament – carded a three-day total of 206 to finish 10-under-par alongside TJ Shehee (Northern Colorado) and Alejandro Nava (UC Davis). Forced into a three-way playoff, however, Shehee prevailed on the second playoff hole.
The last Mustang with a first-place finish was current junior Baron Szeto, who earned a share of the 2023 Big West Championships title before being edged in the playoff.
Pilod's 206 ranks as the eight-lowest, three-day total in program history.
Also competing in the individual competition for Cal Poly, freshman Reese Sato equally shot 69 for the second straight day to finish fifth with a six-under 210. Two shots back and tied for sixth was graduate student Austin Liu (69-71-72-212).
In the team competition, Cal Poly entered Tuesday's final round in fifth place before settling for seventh with a three-day, four-over 868. Junior Jackson Parrish finished sixth for Cal Poly after his final-round 71 finalized a four-under 212. Graduate student Ben Quick (71-68-77-216) slipped from fourth to 17th, finishing at even par 216. Quick was followed by senior Joey Zambri (72-75-72-219, t-35th), junior Parker Mapes (76-74-75-225, t-70th) and Szeto (78-73-75-226, t-78th).
Cal Poly resumes action at the Sept. 18-19 USF-Howard Intercollegiate, hosted at San Francisco's Harding Park.
