Excitement and Energy Level High at Day One of Fall Camp

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — On a perfect 65-degree and sunny morning, Mustang Memorial Field Presented by Dignity Health French Hospital at Spanos Stadium was filled with Cal Poly players and coaches as the Mustangs wrapped up their first day of fall camp Thursday.
There are 118 players on the roster currently and all of them are healthy, something first year head coach Paul Wulff is happy to have as they start their preparations for the 2023 season.
"It's just good to see the numbers, we've got a full roster out there right now and to be able to do and run more plays than we've been able to run just because of the numbers by position so that's been really good," Wulff remarked.Ben Martin catches a pass during the first day of Fall Camp
Players were in shorts and helmets Thursday with the first day of full pads scheduled for Tuesday. The team ran through drills and light offense versus defense plays during the two-hour practice.
Fall camp is comprised on offense of six quarterbacks, seven running backs, 23 wide receivers, six tight ends, and 21 offensive linemen. On defense, the Mustangs have 18 defensive linemen, 12 linebackers, nine cornerbacks, and nine safeties. There are seven special teamers.
All of the work the players have put in the weight room and with a revamped nutrition program led by strength and conditioning coach Henry Adelman showed at the first day of fall camp and it was noticed by the coaching staff.
"The freshness of all the bodies is evident and to watch these guys run around and see the work they've put in the last several months is great to see," Wulff added.
The 20-session fall camp continues through August 25, with two scrimmages set for August 19 and 25. The season opener will be Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. at home against San Diego.
