
Weichman, Ngaluafe to Represent Cal Poly at Big Sky Kickoff

SPOKANE, Wash. — Offensive lineman Garrett Weichman and defensive lineman Josh Ngaluafe will represent Cal Poly at the 2023 Big Sky Conference Summer Kickoff this weekend at the Northern Quest Resort and Casino.
All 12 football teams will be represented in Spokane, Wash., with the events running from Saturday through Monday and including four hours of live coverage on ESPN+ on Monday, starting at 9 a.m. PT.
Weichman (6-3, 305, Graduate Student, Costa Mesa, Calif./Edison High School/Orange Coast College) started all 11 games at center last fall. He was part of an offensive line that helped the Mustangs finish No. 5 in the nation in passing offense and No. 37 in total offense.
He is entering is fifth year at Cal Poly, redshirting and medically redshirting two of those years and having one of those years canceled due to the pandemic. Prior to arriving at Cal Poly, he played two seasons at Orange Coast College where he earned All-Conference honors as a sophomore.
Ngaluafe (6-2, 300, Junior, Sacramento, Calif./River City High School) started four games last season for the Mustangs before suffering a season-ending injury against Sacramento State. In those games, he had 16 tackles, including 10 solo, with one tackle for loss.
As a freshman in 2021, he started all 11 games at defensive tackle, totaling 28 tackles (15 solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two hurries, and three pass breakups.
The schedule of events for the Big Sky Summer Kickoff begins Saturday with players offering instruction at the annual Big Sky Football Youth Clinic from 2-3:30 p.m. at North Central High School. Clinic participants will be instructed by student-athletes from the Big Sky's 12 teams.
Players and coaches will be involved in photo and video shoots all day Sunday, with several meetings for administrators scheduled as well. Dinner will include the presentation of conference awards.
Monday morning will feature four hours of live coverage from the Davenport Grand Hotel, beginning at 9 a.m. on ESPN+. There will be interviews with players and coaches from the conference's 12 football teams.
The conference's preseason coaches and media polls as well as the preseason all-conference team will be released Monday morning.
The Big Sky had another stellar season on the gridiron in 2022, as a league-record six football teams finished the year ranked in the Top 25. The conference also matched its previous high for FCS Playoff teams in one season, set in 2021, with another five squads being selected to the 24-team field.
