SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Winners of two of its last three matches, Cal Poly men's tennis returns home for the first time since the middle of March to host UC Riverside Wednesday at noon for its Big West home opener.
This will be just the second conference dual for the Mustangs (5-8, 0-1 BW). They are coming off playing a stretch of four straight matches away from Mustang Tennis Complex in which they went 2-2 with wins over William & Mary and Nevada.
Junior Noah Berry, ranked No. 83 in the nation in the latest ITA national singles rankings, leads the team in singles wins at 9-2 and has won his last three. For his career so far, Berry has a singles record of 32-13 in dual matches which currently ranks him third in program history for best winning percentage.
The Highlanders (5-12, 0-2 BW) are currently in sixth place in the Big West standings. They have lost four of their last five matches. UC Riverside is looking to have a stronger season this year than the previous two that saw them win just one match in conference play each of those seasons. The Mustangs are 27-1 all-time against UC Riverside and have won 12 straight meetings.
Wednesday's match will be the first of five consecutive Big West matches for the Mustangs to finish the regular season. Cal Poly has won at least a share of the Big West regular season title each of the last two years.
The Mustangs will host UC Irvine, currently second in the Big West standings, Saturday, April 8 at 11 a.m.
