Mustangs Fall to No. 39 UCSB in Regular Season Finale

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Cal Poly men's tennis dropped its final regular season match Sunday on the road to No. 39 UC Santa Barbara, 4-0.
The Mustangs (7-11, 2-4 Big West), who already were locked in at the No. 5 seed in next week's Big West Championships heading into Sunday's match, got a 6-3 win at the No. 2 doubles spot from juniors Noah Berry and Fernando Fonseca. However, the Gauchos (20-3, 5-1 Big West) got wins at the No. 3 spot and from their No. 1 duo, ranked 76th in the country to take the doubles point.
In singles, UCSB picked up its second point of the duel after a 7-5, 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot. They followed it up with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot before wrapping it up with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the No. 5 spot.
With the regular season now finished, Cal Poly will turn its attention to the Big West Championships which take place April 28-30 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego. As the No. 5 seed, the Mustangs will face No. 4 seed Hawai'i Friday, April 28 at 9 a.m. in the quarterfinals. The winner will move on to face the No. 1 seed UC Santa Barbara in the semifinals Friday, April 29 at 9 a.m.
