LA JOLLA, Calif. — Cal Poly men's tennis put on an impressive showing in its penultimate match of the season Friday, shutting out UC San Diego 4-0 on the road in the La Jolla. The Mustangs (7-10, 2-3 BW) started off by taking the doubles point over the Tritons. UCSD did win at No. 1 doubles first. However, Cal Poly bounced back by winning at the No. 2 spot as sophomore Bastiaan Weststrate and junior Colter Smith won 6-3. The point was then clinched by the No. 3 pairing of junior Joe Leather and senior Ben Keyser 7-5. In singles, Leather made quick work of his opponent at the No. 2 spot, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to put the Mustangs ahead 2-0. Junior Noah Berry then put Cal Poly ahead 3-0 after improving his record to a team-leading 11-4 after a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot. The shutout was clinched by junior Carter Crookston, who won at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-4 to mark his third singles victory of the season. Cal Poly will head to Isla Vista Sunday to face No. 39 UC Santa Barbara at noon for the final regular season match before the Big West Championships kick off Thursday, April 27 in San Diego.
