Mustangs Finish Road Trip with 4-2 Win Over Nevada Sunday

DAVIS, Calif. — Cal Poly men's tennis wrapped up a four match road trip on a high note Sunday, beating Nevada 4-2 in a neutral site match played on the campus of UC Davis, their final match of non-conference play.
The Mustangs (5-8) got off to a good start, taking the doubles point. Sophomore Bastiaan Weststrate and redshirt junior Ben Keyser won at the No. 3 spot in impressive fashion 6-1 before the No. 1 tandem of junior Noah Berry and redshirt junior Fernando Fonseca clinched the point after winning their match 7-5.
Fonseca gave Cal Poly a 2-0 lead after a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot for his third straight win to improve his record to 5-5. After the Wolfpack scored their first point after winning at the No. 6 spot, redshirt junior Joe Leather added to the Mustangs' lead by coming up with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot.
Nevada cut the Cal Poly lead to 3-2 after winning at the No. 4 spot before Berry finished off the dual victory for the Mustangs by winning his match at the No. 1 spot 6-1, 7-6(5). Berry has now won three straight matches and has a team-best record of 9-2 this season.
Cal Poly will return home to start a three-match homestand beginning Wednesday, April 5 when hosting UC Riverside at 12 p.m. at Mustang Tennis Complex.
