SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Three members of the 2022 Cal Poly football team have earned Big Sky Conference All-Academic honors for the fall season.
Offensive lineman Austin Anderson, kicker Thomas Lee and wide receiver Michael Roth joined over 600 student-athletes recognized for their excellence academically and athletically.
Anderson, who will be a redshirt junior on the football team this fall, is a construction management major from San Ramon, Calif., and a graduate of California High School.
Lee, who used up his eligibility last fall, is a kinesiology major, also from San Ramon, and graduated from Dougherty Valley High School. He punted 33 times for a 36.6-yard average in his Mustang career.
Roth is a Woodinville (Wash.) High School graduate who majored in mechanical engineering at Cal Poly. He caught two passes for 20 yards last fall and 25 receptions for 309 yards and two scores in his Mustang career, also completing two passes for 46 yards and punting 33 times for a 38.6-yard average.
"Being named to the All-Academic team is not a feat anyone should take lightly," Big Sky Commissioner Tom Wistrcill said. "Competing at the highest level both on the field of play and in the classroom takes a lot of effort, and I'd like to pass along my most sincere congratulations to our 600-plus student-athletes that have earned this prestigious designation."
In total, 626 student-athletes were placed on the All-Academic Team, with 80 of those honorees earning a perfect 4.0 GPA.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team's competitions; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.

The Big Sky had another stellar season on the gridiron in 2022, as a league-record six football teams finished the year ranked in the Top 25. The conference also matched its previous high for FCS Playoff teams in one season, set in 2021, with another five squads being selected to the 24-team field.
• Randy Campbell has been hired by the Big Sky Conference as its Coordinator of Football Officials. Campbell brings more than three decades of officiating experience with stints on the field in the Big 12, Mountain West, and Pac-12 in addition to extensive time within the league's footprint in the FCS and at the NCAA Division II level, including as a coordinator.
Campbell's duties will include hiring, training, and evaluating officials that work all Big Sky home football games. Additional duties include overseeing game evaluators, creating regular educational and training content, and running the annual officiating clinics.
Campbell has spent the past two seasons as the coordinator of football officials for Division II's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Campbell has notched more than 20 postseason officiating appearances, including 18 FBS bowl assignments, five Pac-12 Conference championship games, one Big 12 Conference title tilt, the 2016 CFP semifinal contest between Ohio State and Clemson and the 2013 BCS National Championship matchup that featured Notre Dame and Alabama. Additionally, he is the only college football official to have worked a national championship, semifinal, and conference championship game in two Power Five leagues (Big 12 and Pac-12).
In addition to his collegiate experience, Campbell worked as an NFL replay official this past season while serving as a replay assistant in the NFL from 2017-21, which included a pair of playoff games for the 2021 postseason.
Campbell replaces Karl Richins, who retired after a decade in the coordinator role and a nearly 20-year association with the Big Sky as a player, official, and administrator.
