Cal Poly Secures Third Straight Victory

LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Mustang women's tennis program extended its winning streak to three straight matches Saturday, downing Big West foe Long Beach State 6-1 thanks to a dominant showing in singles.
Cal Poly swept the singles matches as Kim Bhunu, Melissa LaMette, Delanie Dunkle, Peyton Dunkle (pictured above), Alexandra Ozerets and Kennedy Buntrock all took home victories in straight sets.
Buntrock rolled over her opponent at the No. 6 spot, winning 6-0, 6-2. Delanie Dunkle, playing at No. 3, and Ozerets, playing at No. 5, each secured their fourth straight singles victory. Ozerets is now an impressive 7-1 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in conference play.
Bhunu improved to 3-0 in Big West play in singles as well, toppling her opponent 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot to clinch the dual victory for the Mustangs. She has now won three consecutive matches.
Peyton Dunkle played at the No. 4 spot for the first time this season and earned a commanding 6-3, 6-1 win.
The Beach secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. LaMette and Ozerets were able to grab a 6-3 win at the No. 3 doubles spot, improving to 3-1 as a pairing and 2-0 in conference play.
The victory is Cal Poly's first at Long Beach State since 2003 and third straight overall over the Beach.
After winning three straight on the road, the Mustangs (4-5, 2-1 Big West) return home to open a four-match homestand. Cal Poly welcomes UC San Diego to the Mustang Tennis Complex on Friday, March 10, and hosts a match with Pomona-Pitzer at the San Luis Obispo Country Club next Saturday, March 11. Both matches are scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
