
Mustangs Return to Action for Two Matches in Fresno

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis program heads to Fresno this weekend for matches against Washington State and Fresno State.
It will be the Mustangs' first action since opening their spring season in Tucson on Jan. 21-22.
A neutral site match with the Cougars is up first for the Mustangs (1-1) at noon Saturday. WSU is 2-3 this season, earning home victories over Montana and Gonzaga before suffering defeats to No. 7 Virginia, Northwestern and BYU on the road.
Cal Poly is 1-2 all-time against the Cougars, securing a 4-2 home victory in the last meeting between the two teams on March 11, 2008.
The Mustangs cap off a four-match road trip to open the season at 11:30 a.m. Sunday against Fresno State. You can follow the live stats for the match here.
The Bulldogs are currently 2-4 on the year, grabbing wins over Sacramento State and FAU and dropping matches to No. 1 Texas, LMU, Arizona and Northern Arizona. In 2022, Fresno State claimed the Mountain West regular season title with a 10-0 conference record.
Cal Poly rolled to a 4-0 victory over Fresno State, ranked No. 51 in the nation at the time, last year at the Mustang Tennis Complex. The Mustangs have won their last three meetings with the Bulldogs.
The Mustangs finished the 2022 season at No. 70 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, while Fresno State and WSU were ranked No. 65 and No. 69 respectively.
Cal Poly is looking to get back in the win column this weekend after suffering its first defeat at Arizona on Jan. 22, 6-1. Freshman Alexandra Ozerets earned the lone point for the Mustangs in the dual, downing her opponent at the No. 6 singles spot 6-3, 6-2. Ozerets is a perfect 2-0 in singles this spring.
The No. 2 doubles pairing of sophomore Eliza Bates and freshman Kennedy Buntrock are still undefeated, securing 6-3 victories in each of the Mustangs' first two matches.
