SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Racin Delgatty, who blocked six PAT kicks for a school record at St. Francis High School in La Cañada, Calif., has signed a National Letter of Intent to further his football and academic careers at Cal Poly.
The 6-4, 305-pound offensive lineman has earned four varsity letters and was named co-most valuable offensive lineman of the Angelus League this fall after helping the Golden Knights of head coach Dean Herrington to a 10-4 overall record, first-place finish in the Angelus League and a runner-up finish in the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 playoffs.
St. Francis lost to Etiwanda 45-42 in the title game.
On defense, Delgatty earned 24 tackles and recovered three fumbles.
"Racin will be an outstanding interior lineman for us," said first-year Cal Poly head coach Paul Wulff. "He's already over 300 pounds. He's got excellent feet, tremendous toughness and physicality. I really like him and his ability to fit in here at Cal Poly. He's a great addition to our football team."
Delgatty is a two-time first-team All-Angelus League lineman and also earned first-team All-Area and All-CIF-Southern Section Division 5 honors this fall. In addition, he was named lineman of the year at St. Francis.
As a junior, Delgatty earned first-team all-league, all-area and All-CIF Southern Section Division 5 accolades and was named St. Francis lineman of the year. He also was a first-team All-Angelus League honoree as a sophomore.
Also recruited by Northern Arizona, Nevada, New Hampshire and Bryant, Delgatty selected Cal Poly "because of the great coaching staff. Also, with all the coming changes of the new facility and the talent of the recruits, I feel there are great things to come for the Cal Poly Mustangs."
Delgatty is one of seven student-athletes to sign NLIs during the regular signing period, which began Feb. 1 and runs through April 1.
A dozen other future Mustangs signed NLIs or financial aid agreements during the December early signing period and Cal Poly also has announced the transfer of five football players from four-year schools who will enroll in the upcoming spring quarter and participate in Spring Camp from April 4-29.
