AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — Cal Poly sophomore Maya Holman captured fifth in the women's indoor pentathlon during the opening day of the Air Force Ralph Lindeman Invitational on Thursday.
Holman's point total in the pentathlon (3,254 points) was good for fifth on the Mustangs' all-time list. The feat comes less than a week after the Vacaville, Calif. native posted the fifth-fastest indoor 60-meter hurdles time (8.91 seconds) in program history at the UW Indoor Preview to open the 2023 season.
In a tightly-contested battle between the six athletes that competed, Holman finished just 14 points behind the third and fourth place finishers. Wichita State's Destiny Masters won the pentathlon with 3,496 points.
Holman's performance was highlighted by a personal-best toss of 31 feet, 2.5 inches in the shot put, a runner-up finish in the long jump (18-3.75) and a third-place result in the 60-meter hurdles (9.05).
Holman was the only Mustang that competed Thursday. The rest of the 15 members of the Cal Poly women's track team that made the trip to Colorado will take the stage Friday and Saturday.
Action at the Ralph Lindeman Invitational for Cal Poly resumes at 11 a.m. PT with Anna Grexton competing in the weight throw. You can follow the live results here.
