SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After an impressive start to the indoor season, Cal Poly track and field travels to Colorado to take part in the Air Force Lindeman Invitational this Thursday through Saturday.
The Mustang women's indoor team is sending 16 athletes to the meet with sophomore Maya Holman kicking things off Thursday in the pentathlon. You can follow the live results here.
Outside of host Air Force, athletes from BYU, Colorado, Long Beach State, Sacramento State and Wichita State will also be participating in the meet.
Holman, who captured sixth in the heptathlon at last year's Big West Championships as a true freshman, is the only Mustang that will compete Thursday. Holman is fresh off an impressive season-opening performance at the UW Indoor Preview where she posted the fifth-fastest 60-meter hurdles time in school history (8.91 seconds) and established a new personal best in the long jump (18 feet, 5.75 inches) to place fourth.
Holman is slated to begin competition in the indoor heptathlon at 12:15 p.m. Thursday.
Twelve Mustangs will make their season debut Friday — Belle Aduaka, Shimona Draper, Shelby Daniele, Lexi Evans, Anna Grexton, Annie Hatzenbeler, Cassidy Hubert, Melissa Navarro, Melody Nwagwu (pictured above), Aspin Oliver, Anisa Rind and Jadyn Snaer. Grexton will take the stage first at 11 a.m. in the women's weight throw.
Prelims for the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, 200-meter and 400-meter at the Lindeman Invitational will take place Friday, with finals set for Saturday. Draper and Oliver are scheduled to compete in the 60 hurdles, while Oliver is also entered in the 60-meter dash, along with four other Mustangs — Daniele, Navarro, Nwagwu and Snaer.
Navarro is entered in three events Friday (long jump, 60 and 200). The defending Big West champion in the women's javelin is looking to add multis to her workload this season.
Nwagwu, who earned third in the triple jump at the 2022 Big West Championships as a true freshman, will look to leave her mark in the long jump.
A total of five Mustangs are entered in the 200, highlighted by Aduaka and Daniele, who both own top-5 marks in the event. During last year's indoor season, Daniele posted a time of 7.74 seconds in the 60-meter dash, tied with two others for the second-fastest in school history.
Evans and Hatzenbeler will represent Cal Poly in the pole vault, while Hubert will race in the 400.
On Saturday, Amaya Lopez-Fuller, Isabella Rigby and Natalie Rogers are set to make their season debuts in the shot put at 10 a.m.
Cal Poly caps off the meet Saturday afternoon with the women's 4x400 relay.
The Mustangs will continue their indoor season next week when they descend upon Seattle for the UW Invitational on Jan. 27-28.
