Bhunu Earns Fourth Straight Win As Cal Poly Tops Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis team improved to 6-4 on the season after getting a road win over Pacific Sunday in Stockton, 5-2.
After suffering a loss Saturday to San Francisco, the Mustangs bounced back Sunday, taking the doubles point over the Tigers to start off the match. Cal Poly's No. 1 doubles duo of redshirt juniors Emily Ackerman and Kim Bhunu won their fourth match in a row after getting a 6-1 win. The point was clinched after freshmen duo Peyton Dunkle and Eliza bates earned a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot.
In singles, after Pacific got on the board first with a win at the No. 2 spot to tie the dual 1-1, Cal Poly regained the lead after redshirt sophomore Delanie Dunkle beat Danielle Zamora at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-3.
Melissa LaMette later pushed the lead to 3-1 after she picked up a win at the No. 3 spot over Cindy Ung, 6-1, 6-3. LaMette is now 7-5 on the year in singles.
The dual match victory was then clinched for the Mustangs by Peyton Dunkle after she won her match at the No. 6 spot over Alexis Sam, 6-4, 6-1. She now has a team-best record of 7-2 this year in singles.
Bhunu also picked up a singles win on the afternoon at the No. 1 spot in three sets, 5-7, 6-1, 11-9 to win her fourth straight match and improve her record to 7-5 this season.
Cal Poly will play its next three matches at home starting with a pair of matches on Sunday, March 20 at Mustang Tennis Complex. The Mustangs will face Seattle University at 9:30 a.m. before later taking on Fresno Pacific at 2 p.m.
