Mustangs Extend Win Streak to Five After Saturday Shutout of CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis team kept its hot play going Saturday, shutting out CSUN 4-0 on the road to extend its win streak to five matches in a row and remain unbeaten so far in Big West play.
The win for the Mustangs (10-4, 3-0 BWC) is also their fourth consecutive match shutting out their opponent. It marked the fourth straight win over the Matadors (6-5, 2-3 BWC).
Cal Poly got the match started by taking the doubles point over CSUN. After the Matadors won at the No. 2 spot, the Mustangs' No. 3 pairing of graduate Laura Bente and freshman Peyton Dunkle collected a 6-3 win. The point was clinched after the No. 1 duo of redshirt juniors Kim Bhunu and Emily Ackerman pulled out a 6-4 victory.
Bente and Dunkle are now 4-0 since becoming a pair this season. Meanwhile, Bhunu and Ackerman continue to lead Cal Poly in doubles wins with a record of 11-4 and have won their last seven matches.
In singles, redshirt sophomore Delanie Dunkle continued her strong play of late as she gave Cal Poly a 2-0 lead after a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 5 spot. She has now won her last five matches and is 7-6 on the year.
Fellow redshirt sophomore Melissa LaMette (pictured) got the next point for the Mustangs, winning her match 6-1, 6-2 to improve her record to 8-5.
The dual was then clinched for Cal Poly by Bente after she won at the No. 2 spot in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5.
The Mustangs will look to keep things rolling next week as they prepare to start a three-match homestand. Cal Poly will host Long Beach State on Friday, April 1 at 12 p.m. followed by Hawai'i on Sunday, April 3 at 12 p.m.
