Cal Poly Women’s Tennis Blanks Sacramento State in Home Opener

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After playing its first three matches of the season on the road, the Cal Poly women's tennis team picked up a 4-0 win over Sacramento State in its home opener Saturday at Mustang Tennis Complex.
The Mustangs (2-2) started the dual by taking the doubles point over the Hornets (0-5) for the third time this season.
Cal Poly's No. 1 duo of redshirt juniors Emily Ackerman and Kim Bhunu got things going with a 6-1 win. They are now 4-2 overall together this season and 3-0 in dual matches.
The No. 2 pairing of redshirt sophomores Delanie Dunkle and Melissa LaMette then clinched the doubles point for the Mustangs after a 6-2 victory. They are now 3-1 so far this year.
In singles, freshman Peyton Dunkle got the first win of the day from the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-1 to put Cal Poly up 2-0. She is now a team-best 5-2 so far this season.
Bhunu then won her match from the No. 1 spot in the lineup 6-3, 6-2 for her second win of the young season.
The dual was later clinched after LaMette won her match at the No. 3 spot in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to improve to 3-3 this season.
Cal Poly will go back on the road next week for a pair of matches in the San Diego area. The Mustangs will face UC San Diego Friday, Feb. 11 at 1p.m. for their first Big West match of the season before taking on San Diego State Saturday Feb. 12.
