Mustangs Blank UC San Diego 7-0 in Big West Opener

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Continuing a two-match winning streak, Cal Poly women's tennis blanked UC San Diego 7-0 Friday in La Jolla. Delanie Dunkle (pictured) and Melissa LaMette, in the No. 2 doubles spot, started off by winning 6-1. Advancing their overall record to 4-1.
UC San Diego's No. 1 doubles duo then defeated Cal Poly's Emily Ackerman and Kim Bhunu 6-3. The duo's record for this season is 4-3.
To clinch the doubles point, freshmen duo Eliza Bates and Peyton Dunkle won their set 6-3. The No. 3 spot duo is now 1-1.
The Mustangs won all of their singles matches.
Delanie Dunkle, at the No. 4 spot, won 6-0, 6-2. She is now 2-3.
At the No. 6 singles spot, Eliza Bates also won 6-3, 6-1. She is now 1-2 on the season.
Emily Ackerman clinched the dual for Cal Poly from the No. 3 spot winning her match 6-2, 6-2.
Sophomore Shreya Ravilla defeated UC San Diego's No. 5 singles player via a third set super tiebreaker 2-6, 6-0, 10-5.
At the No. 1 singles spot Bhunu won 6-1, 7-5. Bhunu's singles record is now 3-4.
In another match that featured a third set super tiebreaker, in the No. 2 spot, Melissa LaMette won 4-6, 6-1, 10-5. This season LaMette is 4-3 overall.
The Mustangs will stay on the road to take on San Diego State Saturday at noon.
Cal Poly (3-2) started the match by taking the doubles point.
