Cal Poly Opens Play at ITA Northwest Regionals Thursday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis team continues the fall portion of its season when they travel to Stanford for the ITA Northwest Regionals.
The tournament starts this Thursday with qualifying and first round singles matches, and continues through Tuesday.
Nine Mustangs will compete in singles play — Eliza Bates, Misha Berry, Kim Bhunu, Kennedy Buntrock, Delanie Dunkle, Peyton Dunkle, Melissa LaMette, Sasha Ozerets and Shreya Ravilla. At last year's ITA Northwest Regional, Bhunu made it all the way to the Round of Eight.
Bates, Berry and Ravilla will all open competition at the tourney Thursday with qualifying singles matches, while the rest of the Mustangs take the court for the first time Friday.
Ozerets, a freshman, captured the White Flight consolation singles title at the Cal Fall Invite on Oct. 2 in her debut for the Mustangs, defeating Berry 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 in the final.
In doubles action, three Cal Poly pairings will hit the court in the Round of 64 Friday — Bates/Buntrock, Bhunu/LaMette and the Dunkle sisters. LaMette and Bhunu take on fifth-seeded Alexandra Yepifanova and Alexis Blokhina from Stanford to open the tournament, while Buntrock and Bates will battle Carolina Piferi and Leann Serna from Fresno State. The Dunkle sisters will face Uxia Martinez Moral and Misaki Kobayashi from Oregon.
