Cal Poly in 10th Place Late in Second Round of Windon Memorial

GLENCOE, Illinois -- As low as 13th in the field of 14 teams early in the first round of the Windon Memorial, the Cal Poly men's golf team has climbed into 10th place with three of its golfers still to complete their second round.
Darkness suspended play late Monday at the Lake Shore Country Club with about 20 golfers still on the course, some having as many as five holes to play. The second round will be completed early Tuesday morning followed by the final round.
Three Mustang golfers were in the top 40 when play was halted on the 7,000-yard par-71 course.
Austin Liu leads the way as he is tied for 20th place with a one-under-par 141 total for 36 holes. Liu carded a 73 in the opening round, then jumped 37 spots on the leaderboard with his second-round 68 that featured four birdies and a bogey.
Freshman Baron Szeto is in a tie for 29th place at even par with two holes to play in the second round. He posted a 69 in the opening round that included an eagle on the 520-yard, par-5 13th hole along with six birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey.
Will Draper recorded a 70 in the morning and a 73 in the afternoon for a one-over-par 143 total and a tie for 39th place. Draper also had an eagle in the first round, carding a three on the 569-yard par-5 ninth hole.
Joey Zambri is tied for 51st place. He opened with a 73 and is one over par in the second round through 16 holes.
Nicholas Mok is tied for 62nd place with one more hole to play Tuesday morning. He posted a 76 in the morning and is at even par in his second round.
RJ Manke of Washington carded a 71 and 65 and leads the field with a six-under-par 136 total. Davis Cooper of Kansas completed his two rounds and is at 137 while Palmer Jackson of Notre Dame and Hunter Eichhorn of Marquette also are five under par but with five holes to play.
Notre Dame had a 10-under-par total for the lead when play was suspended, one shot ahead of South Florida. Marquette and Washington share third place at seven under par. Northwestern, the host school of the tournament, is seventh.
Cal Poly is one over par for 10th place, 11 strokes off the pace set by the Huskies.
