Bobo-Lloret, Kuszyk Earn All-Big West Praise

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Following a standout first season for the Cal Poly men’s golf program, Rafael Bobo-Lloret was named Big West Freshman of the Year on Tuesday and joined sophomore Nolan Kuszyk as an All-Big West second team selection.
Bobo-Lloret (Marseille, France), Cal Poly’s first Big West Freshman of the Year honoree since Justin De Los Santos in 2014, led the Mustangs in scoring average (72.5 strokes per round) and was named February’s Big West Golfer of the Month after sharing the individual title at CSUN’s Feb. 2-3 Bill Cullum Invitational.
Finishing 10th at the May 3-5 Big West Championship and 17th at the Feb. 23-25 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate among three top-20 showings, Bobo-Lloret closed the year with nine rounds under par and three in the 60s.
Kuszyk (La Cañada Flintridge, CA), the only Mustang to compete in all 33 competitive rounds this year, recorded a 72.6 scoring average and led Cal Poly with three top-10 showings. His posted a season best fifth-place finish at Central Michigan’s Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational (March 23-24) and was sixth at CSUN’s Bill Cullum Invitational (Feb. 2-23).
Also an All-Big West second team selection last spring, Kuszyk topped Cal Poly’s lineup with 11 rounds under par and four in the 60s.
With Kuszyk and Bobo-Lloret in the lineup, Cal Poly finished second at the May 3-5 Big West Championship – the program’s highest placement in a decade and best under sixth-year head coach Phil Rowe.
