SEASIDE – Taking a one-stroke lead into Wednesday’s final round at the Saint Mary’s Invitational, freshman Frederick Egnatios finished his third collegiate tournament as the runner-up after recording a one-over 73 during the final 18 holes.
At the par-72, 7,044-yard Bayonet & Blackhorse Golf Club, Egnatios – the nation’s 76th-ranked player – carded a 40 on the front nine before closing with a 33 on the back nine that included two birdies and an eagle of the par-five, 517-yard 10th hole. The 73, however, placed him one shot back of the four players that shared individual honors with Egnatios producing a nine-under 207 (66-68-73) for the tournament.
Seeking back-to-back tournament titles after winning at Northwester’s Sept. 28-29 Windon Memorial, Egnatios enjoyed 16 birdies at Bayonet and Blackhorse.
Mustang sophomore Vidur Subramaniam closed with a one-under 71 Wednesday that included four birdies and an eagle on the par-five, 527-yard 18th. Subramaniam was 21st with a three-round, two-under 214 (71-72-71).
Sophomore Rafael Bobo-Lloret was 65th at six-over 222 (73-73-76), senior Jack Jarvis finished 71st at seven-over 223 (75-72-76) and freshman Leo McDonough was 80th with a nine-over 225 (74-76-75).
As a team, Cal Poly slipped from fifth to eighth during the final round, finishing with an even-par 864 (284-285-295).
