FINAL RESULTS
GLENCOE, Illinois -- Joey Zambri carded a 70 and Baron Szeto added a 71 to highlight Cal Poly's performance in the final round of the Windon Memorial on Tuesday at the Lake Shore Country Club.
Playing on the 7,000-yard, par-71 course on the shores of Lake Michigan just north of Chicago, Coach Phil Rowe's Mustangs finished 13th in the team standings, posting a final-round four-person 293 total for an 864 aggregate, one shot ahead of UC Davis but 30 strokes off the lead.
Kansas climbed from third place to the top of the leaderboard over the final 18 holes with a 12-under-par 272 total, seven strokes ahead of runner-up and tournament host Northwestern. Notre Dame slipped from first to third with a final-round 283 for an 843 aggregate.
Zambri's round of 70 included four birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey as he finished with a three-over-par 216 total and a tie for 42nd place.
Szeto finished in a tie for 30th place with his 71 that featured five birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey. He carded a one-over-par 214 total for 54 holes.
Also scoring for Cal Poly were Austin Liu with a final-round 76 for a 217 total and 50th-place tie, Will Draper with a 78 for a 221 total and 67th-place tie, and Nicholas Mok with a 76 for a 224 total and 77th-place tie.
Claiming top individual honors was Davis Cooper of Kansas with rounds of 67, 70 and 67 for a nine-under-par 204 total and a two-shot victory over RJ Manke (71-65-70--206) of Washington. Four other golfers shared third place at six under par.
Szeto finished tied for first with three other golfers in par-5 scoring at seven under par and also was tied for eighth in par-3 scoring at one under par.
Draper and Szeto both carded an eagle Monday for a second-place tie behind Clay Merchent of Michigan, whose card showed a pair of eagles. Szeto's 15 birdies tied for first with Palmer Jackson of Notre Dame.
Cal Poly returns to action Oct. 11-12 at the Oregon State Invitational, to be contested at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Oregon.
