Cal Poly Opens Play in The Prestige on the Greg Norman Course at PGA West

LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Competing in a 24-team tournament with several nationally ranked men's golf teams, including defending national champion Stanford, Cal Poly is tied for 16th place after one round of play in The Prestige hosted by Stanford on the Greg Norman Course at PGA West.
The Mustangs carded a four-person 291 total on the 7,100-yard, par-71 course. Arizona State leads at eight-under-par 276 followed by Pepperdine at 281 and North Carolina at 282.
Leading the way for Cal Poly is Will Draper, tied for 25th place with an even-par 71 after recording two birdies and a pair of bogeys. Tanner Podres added a 72 with two birdies, one triple-bogey and 15 pars and is tied for 42nd place.
Austin Liu tallied a 73 with three birdies, a bogey and two double-bogeys and is tied for 52nd place while Joey Zambri added a 75 and is tied for 83rd place. Also scoring for Cal Poly was Luke Adam with an 80 for a 116th-place tie.
The second round will be played Tuesday, with the final round on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, in a companion individual tournament at Coral Mountain Golf Club, Cal Poly's Nicholas Mok carded an opening-round 71 and is tied for 10th place.
On the 7,100-yard, par-71 course, Mok recorded three birdies and one double-bogey. He is six strokes behind Derek Hitchner of Pepperdine, who blazed his way to a seven-under-par 65 and a three-stroke advantage over Liam Clancy of Wyoming and Jake Sollon of Oregon.
