Podres Climbs Into Top 10 at The Prestige Men's Golf Tournament

LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Tanner Podres fired a 69 to move into the top 10, highlighting Cal Poly's performance on the second of three days of competition in The Prestige men's golf tournament hosted by Stanford on Tuesday at the PGA West's Greg Norman Course.
With two birdies and 16 pars, Podres jumped from 42nd place into a tie for 10th place with eight other golfers heading into Wednesday's final round on the 7,145-yard par-71 course.
As a team, Cal Poly slipped to 22nd place in the 24-team field, carding a four-person 301 total and a 592 aggregate for 36 holes.
Pepperdine leads with an eight-under-par 560 total, followed by Arizona State and Arizona, both with 563 aggregates.
In addition to Podres, Cal Poly's other scoring golfers were Will Draper with a 78 for a 149 total and 77th place, Austin Liu with a 78 for a 151 total and 88th place, Joey Zambri with an 81 and Luke Adam with a 76, both in a tie for 113th place.
Individual leader after two rounds is Kudvig Aberg of Texas Tech, who checked in with a 67 for a six-under-par 136 total and a two-stroke lead over first-round leader David Puig of Arizona State (64-74--138). Aaron Du of Cal and Jacob Skov Olesen of TCU share third place with 139 totals.
Meanwhile, in the tournament for individuals at Coral Mountain, Mustang Nicholas Mok climbed three spots into seventh place with a second-round five-under-par 67, giving him a six-under-par 138 total.
Mok posted seven birdies and a pair of bogeys to go along with nine pars. He is tied for sixth with 10 birdies in 36 holes and also is fourth in par-3 scoring at even par and fourth in par-4 scoring as well at three under par.
Hazen Newman of Oklahoma State leads by two strokes with a 12-under-par 132 total after carding a 63 Tuesday. Derek Hitchner of Pepperdine is second at 134, one shot ahead of teammate Austin Murphy.
