Mustangs Drop Sunday Contest At Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. — Redshirt junior Alex Stater (pictured) picked up his team-leading fifth singles win of the season but the Cal Poly men's tennis fell in its Sunday road match to Fresno State 2-5.
The Bulldogs (2-0) took the doubles point after wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. They then took the first singles match at the No. 1 spot to take a 2-0 lead.
The Mustangs (3-3) cut the lead to 2-1 after redshirt freshman Joe Leather won his match at the No. 3 position in the lineup in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. Leather is now 3-2 in singles competition so far this season.
Cal Poly then tied it 2-2 after Stater won his match at the No. 2 spot in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. He now boasts a 5-1 record in singles so far.
However, Fresno State went on to win the next three singles matches on their way to the 5-2 win.
With the loss, the Mustangs move to 3-3 on the season. They will play the last of their seven road matches to begin the season on Friday in Malibu against Pepperdine at 2 p.m.
