Cal Poly Announces 10 Football Signees to National Letter of Intent
12/15/2021 2:59:00 PM | Football
The 10-member class was announced Wednesday, the opening day of the National Letter of Intent's Early Signing Period for football. The period for high school student-athletes ends Friday while community college transfers who will enroll midyear have until Jan. 15 to sign during the Midyear JC Transfer Period. The Regular Signing Period for football runs from Feb. 2 through April 1 in Division I.
The Mustang newcomers include four wide receivers and one each for defensive back, defensive lineman, offensive lineman, quarterback, running back and the Australian punter.
"It's a little smaller class than what we have had before," said Baldwin, "but it was more of a selective process for us as we were looking at certain positions to fill. Our guys did a great job earmarking certain guys and that will help create more and more competition for us at various positions."
One of the seven high school players led his prep team to a state championship last week and a second played in the semifinals.
The signing announcement was made by Baldwin and Cal Poly director of athletics Don Oberhelman.
Cal Poly captured the Big Sky championship in its first season in the conference (2012), has claimed five conference titles in the last 17 years, including four in the eight-year existence of the Great West Conference (2004-11), and earned its fourth NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision playoff berth in 2016. Cal Poly will announce its 2022 football schedule Thursday.
