10/3/2021 4:10:00 PM | Women's Soccer
DAVIS – Goals from UC Davis midfielder Risa Yamada in the 21st and 77th minutes accounted for the difference Sunday afternoon as the Cal Poly women's soccer program had a three-match winning streak snapped with a 2-0 loss at Aggie Soccer Field.
Freshman goalkeeper Lindsay Kellogg chalked up a career high seven saves for Cal Poly (7-6-0, 3-1-1), which was outshot, 17-10 and placed just four attempts on target en route to dropping its first Big West Conference match of the year.
UC Davis found Sunday's opening goal with the first shot on target of the afternoon as midfielders Leslie Fregoso and Emma Hasco combined in the 21st minute to set up Yamada, who scored her fourth of the season.
The Aggies forced Kellogg into two more saves before Mustang freshman midfielder Kate Reedy was turned away by UC Davis goalkeeper Nicki Rucki 39 seconds before the break.
Into the second half, Mustang sophomore midfielder Camille Lafaix was stopped by Rucki in the 56th minute before Kellogg kept Cal Poly's deficit at 1-0 with saves in the 61st, 68th and 70th.
UC Davis and Yamada, however, broke through in the 77th minute with the Aggies midfielder putting her team leading fifth of the season past Kellogg.
Cal Poly enjoyed two more shots on target with junior midfielder Megan Hansen closed down by Rucki in the 79th and freshman midfielder McKenna Carbon stopped three seconds from full time.
Cal Poly returns home to Alex G. Spanos Stadium to open its final home stand of the regular season – a three-game stretch – against CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, Oct. 7. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
