SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly men's basketball team is scheduled to close the non-conference portion of its regular season with the program's first road matchup of the year as the Mustangs visit Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Dec. 19. Tip time from Gersten Pavilion is 6 p.m.
Saturday's matchup marks Cal Poly's fourth meeting with a West Coast Conference opponent through the program's six-game non-conference schedule. After falling at home to San Francisco (Dec. 4) and Santa Clara (Dec. 9), Cal Poly (2-3) – despite overturning a 13-point halftime deficit against San Diego on Wednesday afternoon – dropped a 70-61 decision to the Toreros.
Loyola Marymount (4-3), meanwhile, is facing its fourth successive Big West Conference opponent after defeating Long Beach State (Dec. 4), splitting a home-and-home series versus UC Santa Barbara (Dec. 7 and 12) and topping UC Irvine (Dec. 17).
Cal Poly is squaring off with Loyola Marymount for the first time since dropping a 79-59 road decision on Dec. 17, 2013. Trailing in the all-time series, 6-4, Cal Poly seeks its first victory inside Gersten Pavilion during its fourth all-time visit.
Individually, freshman guard Kobe Sanders enjoyed his third double-digit scoring effort of the year with 10 points during Wednesday's home loss to San Diego. Third in Cal Poly's lineup at 10.6 points per game, Sanders is shooting 60.6 (20-for-33) percent from the floor and a team best 57.1 (12-for-21) percent from three-point range.
With eight points versus San Diego, sophomore forward Alimamy Koroma remains second in Cal Poly's lineup at 11.6 points per game.
A starter in four of five games, senior point guard Keith Smith led Cal Poly with 12 points against San Diego. Smith is one of three Mustangs averaging 7.4 points per game alongside freshman forward Brantly Stevenson (above) and freshman guard Camren Pierce.
