SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal Poly men's tennis team picked up its eighth consecutive win Friday afternoon, as it beat San Francisco 4-1 in San Francisco, Calif.
"Strong response today in singles after dropping our first doubles point in a while," said head coach Nick Carless. "I think it was a good test for us heading into our match at UC Davis and should make us a little grittier come Sunday."
Ben Donovan and Corey Pang started the match off on a strong note, as they beat Christian Brockstedt and Mert Zincirli on court one 6-3, but it wasn't enough to clinch the doubles point.
Josh Ortlip and Garrett Auproux were beat by Oliver Poysti and Paul Giraud on court three 6-3, while Tim Tan and Karl Enander were beat by Johan Joenhagen and Jerod Mah on court two 6-4, giving USF the doubles point.
The Mustangs turned things around in singles play, as they did not let USF take a single match.
Axel Damiens picked up a quick win against Brockstedt on court six 6-1, 6-3, tying the score up 1-1.
Donovan beat Zincirli on court one 6-2, 6-1, while Antoine Noel beat Giraud on court five 6-3, 6-4.
Ortlip clinched the match for the Mustangs after he beat Joenhagen on court three 6-2, 6-3.
