
Mustang Men's Tennis Wins First Home Match of the Season, 4-3

SAN LUIS OBISPO – After three rain delays, the Cal Poly Men's tennis team picked up its first home win of the season, as the defeated New Mexico in a close 4-3 match.
"It was a hard fought team win and I am really proud of the team for learning from last weekend's match at Oregon," said head coach Nick Carless. "We worked on things in practice since we got back from Eugene and I think they did a great job of putting it into their matches today."
Due to rain Saturday after noon at Mustang Courts, the Mustangs started doubles play at Avila Bay Athletic Club.
Rodolfo Jauregui and Sean Baklini beat Karl Enander and Antoine Noel on court three, while Dominic West and Bart Van Leijsen beat Tim Tan and Garrett Auproux on court two 7-6 (6), giving the Lobos the doubles point.
Singles play followed but was quickly abandoned due to more rain. The teams started singles play back up Sunday morning at Mustang Courts, where the Mustangs turned their momentum around from Saturday.
Corey Pang beat Van Leijsen on court one 7-5, 6-0, advancing him to 3-1 on the season. Axel Damiens is now also 3-1 on the season, as he easily beat Jorge Escutia 6-2, 6-1 on court six.
Auproux put up a fight against Ricky Hernandez-Tong on court three, but fell 6-2, 7-6, while Noel was beat by Lawrence Perrin 6-3, 6-4 on court five, giving the Lobos a 3-2 advantage.
Ben Donovan tied the score back up after he beat Jauregui 6-3, 7-5 on court two, forcing court four to determine the match.
Josh Ortlip pushed West to three sets and clinched the match for the Mustangs after beating him 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
The Mustangs are now 3-2 on the season and will be back on the courts on Monday Feb. 13 to take on LMU.
