
No. 63 Cal Poly Falls on the Road to No. 73 UNLV

LAS VEGAS, NV – The Cal Poly men's tennis team fell on the road to 73rd-ranked UNLV at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas on Saturday. With the loss the Mustangs fall to 8-7 on the year while UNLV improves to 13-4.
The match opened with doubles play with UNLV winning two of the three matches and the doubles point. Gilad Berman and Carlos Li Laura defeated Gannon Daynes and Derek Klein in the third court, 8-2. The Mustangs came back and won on the second court with Marco Comuzzo and Matt Thomson defeating Johannes Markel and Tamas Batyi, 8-6. The point was decided on the first court where Ace Matias and Bernard Schoeman defeated Andre Dome and Naveen Beasley, 8-5.
Singles play opened with UNLV going up 2-0 when Daynes retired on the sixth court, trailing 6-1, 3-0, to Di Laura.
Berman put the Rebels up 3-0 on the third court when he defeated Klein, 6-2 and 6-2. The Mustangs finally got things going when Beasley defeated Charlie Alvarado, 6-3 and 6-2, on the fourth court and Dome took care of Matias on the first court, 7-5 and 6-4.
Cal Poly tied the match, 3-3, when Comuzzo won in straight sets, 7-5 and 7-6, over Batyi on court No. 2 setting up the show down on the fifth court. Thomson opened play winning the first set 7-6, but Markel fought back to win the second set, 6-2, and held on to win the third set, 6-4.
