Pac 12 Arizona Defeats Men's Tennis, 4-3

TUCSON, AZ—The Cal Poly men's tennis team lost in a close battle to Pac-12 Arizona, 4-3, in a non-conference match at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center on Friday. With the loss, Cal Poly falls to 5-3 overall while Arizona improves to 7-2. Cal Poly entered the match with a national ranking of 58 while UA was not ranked.
Cal Poly returns to the courts on Saturday when they will play DePaul in a neutral match at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
Play opened with the Mustangs sweeping all three of the doubles matches and taking the doubles point. Andre Dome and Jordan Bridge teamed to defeat Giacomo Miccini and Urquidi, 8-0, on the first court. On the second court, Marco Comuzzo and Matt Thomson were pushed by Fredrik Ask and Naoki Takeda, but prevailed, 8-7.
On the third court, Naveen Beasley and Jurgen De Jager defeated Kieren Thompson and Matt Dunn, 8-3.
In singles play, Dome brushed aside UA's Ask, 6-3, 6-2, on the first court with Jordan Bridge dominating on the third court with a 6-2, 6-4, win over Andre Vidaller.
Arizona picked up wins on the second, fourth, fifth and sixth courts to take the match.
Miccini defeated Comuzzo, 5-7, 7-6 and 6-3, at No. 2 while Thompson defeated Derek Klein, 6-2, 6-2, on the fourth court.
Urquidi defeated De Jager, 5-7, 7-5 and 6-3, on court No. 5 with Naoki Takeda defeating Naveen Beasley, 2-6, 6-3 and 6-1.
