
Mustangs Hang Tough with No. 17 Washington, Fall 4-3

MALIBU, Calif. – The Cal Poly men's tennis team pushed No. 17 Washington to the brink in a neutral match in Malibu, but fell 4-3, in a non-conference match on Friday.
With the loss the Mustangs fall to 10-5 overall while Washington improves to 12-3.
The Mustangs will return to the courts when they host Pacific for a Big West Conference match on March 31, at 11 am.
The match started with the No. 52 Mustangs winning the double point when Marco Comuzzo and Jurgen De Jager teamed to defeat Max Manthou and Nickolas Kamisar, 8-6.
Jordan Bridge and Brian McPhee secured the doubles point for the Mustangs with an 8-5 win over Marton Bots and Vikton Farkas on the second court.
Andre Dome and Matt Facett fell, 8-4, to the 63rd-ranked team of Kyle McMorrow and Emmett Egger.
With Cal Poly up 1-0, singles play started with Egger defeating McPhee, 6-1, 6-0 on the second court and tying up the match at 1-1.
Washington took a 2-1 lead with a win on the fifth court when Max Manthou defeated Comuzzo, 6-1, 6-4.
The Huskies made it 3-1 when Bots defeated Fawcett, 6-2, 6-2, on the third court, but the Mustangs cut into the lead when De Jager defeated Kasisar on the sixth court, 6-4, 6-2.
Cal Poly evened the match with a 7-6, 6-4, win on the fourth court when Bridge defeated Farkas in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4.
It all came down to the first court where No. 25 Dome looked to upset No. 17 McMorrow. Dome won the first set 6-4, but dropped the next two, 7-6, 6-4.
