Men's Tennis Defeats No. 49 BYU, 4-2

MALIBU, Calif. – The 52nd –ranked Cal Poly men's tennis team put one in the win column on Saturday with a convincing 4-2 win over 49th-ranked BYU at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on the Pepperdine campus in Malibu.
With the win the Mustangs improve to 1-3 on the year while BYU falls to 1-4.
Play opened with doubles the doubles competition with Jordan Bridge teaming with Brian McPhee on the first court and picking up an 8-4 win over Georgy Batrakov and Patrick Kawka. Andre Dome and Marco Comuzzo sealed the doubles point with an 85 win over Spencer Smith and Francis Sargeant.
With the doubles point secured, singles play opened with BYU wining the first match on the second court. Spencer Smith defeated McPhee, 6-1, 6-2.
Cal Poly came right back with Bridge winning on the fourth court with a straight set win (6-2, 6-3) over 67th-ranked Keaton Cullimore. The Mustangs made it 3-1 when Dome, ranked 22nd defeated 43rd-ranked Georgy Batrakov, 6-2, 6-2.
BYU closed the gap with a win on the third court with 106th-ranked Patrick Kawka defeated Comuzzo, 6-3, 6-3.
Sebastian Bell secured the Mustang win on the sixth couth with a straight set win over Travis Fillmore, 6-3, 6-3.
With the match decided, play on the fifth court went unfinished.
