Men's Tennis Walks Over No. 56 Arizona, 6-1

TUCSON, AZ -- The Cal Poly men's tennis team defeated Arizona, dealing the Wildcats their first loss of the season, 6-1 on Saturday at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center in Tucson. The win was the first for the Mustangs in eight meetings with Arizona. With the win the Mustangs improve to 2-3 while Arizona falls to 3-1.
In doubles action, the Mustangs took the point, winning two matches with the third going unfinished.
On court one, Jordan Bridge and Brian McPhee went down 2-1 before winning the next seven games and the set, 8-2, over Sumeet Shinde and Giacomo Miccini.
Andre Dome and Marco Comuzzo sealed the doubles point when they teamed to defeat Andre Vidaller and Sebastian Ionescu, 8-6.
In singles play the Mustangs dominated play, winning five of the six matches.
No. 22 Dome, on the first court, made quick work of Miccini with a straight set win, 6-1 and 6-1. Jurgen De Jager followed on the fifth court with another straight set win, 6-3, 6-2, over Ionecu to make the match 3-0.
Sebastian Bell secured the match on the sixth court with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Mario Urquidi.
Arizona finally got on the board when Vidaller defeated McPhee, 6-4, 7-6.
With the match decided, Cal Poly's Comuzzo and Bridge both came from behind to pick up wins.
Comuzzo dropped the first set, 6-2, against Carlos Bermudez, but came back to win the next two sets, 6-2 and 6-4 on the third court.
Bridge came back to win sets two and three (6-2, 6-3) after Shinde won the opening set, 6-4.
The Mustangs return to action on Sunday when they play Grand Canyon University in Tucson.
