Eric Coleman is in his fourth season as an assistant coach at Cal Poly. He worked with the linebackers for the 2013 and 2014 seasons and, after one season as an assistant coach at JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., returned to coach the fullbacks and tight ends beginning with the 2016 campaign.
For 10 years, Coleman served as an assistant coach in the Kern High School District -- six years at Ridgeview High School (2003-08) and four years at Bakersfield High School (2009-12).
Coleman coached on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball with the two high school teams.
Coleman also was an assistant coach in charge of the defensive line for the Bakersfield Blitz of af2, an arena football league.
Coleman’s primary duties with the Blitz included building and implementing practice plans, managing and motivating players through practice and game-time preparation, creating and implementing defensive game plans and managing and analyzing video breakdown data.
At Cal Poly, Coleman coached Joe Protheroe to 1,334 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior in 2016.
Coleman, who played football and baseball and wrestled at Ridgeview High, earned his bachelor’s degree in business at Fresno Pacific in May 2012 and is currently working on his master’s degree in teaching at Point Loma Nazarene, specializing in moderate and severe special education.
