SAN LUIS OBISPO – Ray Hall (right) finished with a game high 125 yards and his first two collegiate touchdown receptions and Fidel Pitts caught a third from quarterback Anthony Grigsby, Jr., as the Cal Poly football program prevailed at home for the second time in as many weeks with a 24-17 victory against Division II Central Washington.

Grigsby closed with 204 passing yards for Cal Poly (2-0), which trailed Central Washington (0-1) after the first quarter, 7-0, before scoring 24 unanswered points.

Forced to punt on its opening two drives, Cal Poly scored during the third. Taking over on downs at their own 45-yard line after stopping Central Washington on fourth-and-two, Grigsby found Hall over the top on a 55-yard strike to tie the matchup.

The Mustangs then went up 14-7 midway through the second quarter with Grigsby picking out Pitts (below) on a four-yard touchdown pass into the middle of the end zone.

Freshman kicker Noah Thayer closed the opening half with a 33-yard field goal before Grigsby opened the second with 35-yard touchdown completion to Hall after senior linebacker Troy Bean intercepted a pass from Central Washington quarterback Justin Brennan 11 seconds into the quarter.

Junior running back Jaden Green (above) led Cal Poly with 91 rushing yards. Defensively, Mikey D’Amato enjoyed a game high 13 tackles while fellow linebacker Kenny Olson produced 12 and forced the second quarter fumble recovery that led to Thayer’s field goal heading into halftime.

Up Next: Cal Poly plays its first road matchup of 2026 against its lone FBS opponent when visiting San Jose State on Saturday, Sept. 12. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
Cal Poly’s 2-0 start to the season is its first since the 2012 Mustangs finished 9-3, won a share of the Big Sky Conference title and qualified for the FCS playoffs.
Saturday’s matchup marked Cal Poly first and only meeting against Central Washington since a 49-14 home victory on Sept. 28, 1996.
