SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly track and field team officially wraps up regular season action this Friday and Saturday when 18 Mustangs travel to Azusa Pacific for the Franson Last Chance.
Action on both days for the Mustangs will begin at 7 p.m. with a livestream available on FloTrack. You can follow the live results HERE.
The meet serves as one last chance for athletes to earn qualifying marks for their conference championship meets and the NCAA West Prelims, which is comprised of the top 48 individual marks and top 24 relay times in the West Region this season.
A majority of Cal Poly’s top middle distance runners will be in action, including Chris Caudillo, Ella Echsner, Aidan McCarthy and Carson Smith. Caudillo, who has already competed in a pair of meets unattached this spring, is set to make his outdoor season debut in uniform at Azusa. On the same track at the Bryan Clay Invitational a few weeks ago, the two-time NCAA West Prelims qualifier in the 1,500-meter posted a lifetime best in the 5,000 of 13:28.40, which would rank No. 21 in the West Region and No. 24 in Division I this season if ran attached.
Sprinter Jordan Jackson is also slated to take part in the meet, but will be running an 800 in hopes of posting a time fast enough to qualify for the NCAA West Prelims. Jackson, who currently ranks No. 4 in school history in the women’s outdoor 400 (53.87 seconds), will be running just her second 800 ever, posting the 12th-fastest time in school history (2:08.52) while competing in the event for the first time earlier this season at the West Coast Relays. Echsner is also eyeing a NCAA West Prelims qualifying time in the 800, running the 11th-fastest time in school history (2:07.95) just three weeks ago at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
The 800 and 5,000 will be run on day one of the meet Friday, while the 1,500 and 3,000 steeplechase will be contested on the final day Saturday. Those are the only events Mustangs will compete in at the meet, with 15 men slated to race and three women. A full list of entries can be found below.

Following this weekend’s action, Cal Poly will prepare to travel to Long Beach State to compete in the Big West Championships next Friday and Saturday at Jack Rose Track. The multi-event portion of the meet — which consists of the decathlon on the men’s side and the heptathlon on the women’s — is being contested this Friday and Saturday at UC Irvine, but no Mustangs are taking part in it.
