Our 2026 incoming class is a perfect example of the culture, talent and identity we’re continuing to build at Cal Poly. Academically, our school is defined by its ‘Learn By Doing’ philosophy and we try to apply that same mindset to recruiting, seeking the best young talent in California and giving them the opportunity to step onto the field and make an immediate impact.- Oige Kennedy, Cal Poly Head Coach
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Combining the reigning Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honoree with a standout scorer at club level, the Cal Poly men’s soccer program recently bolstered its attack with Devin Bening joining as a transfer from Occidental College and Sean Chamberlin set to arrive ahead of August’s preseason training camp.
Bening scored a conference best 11 goals in 19 matches last fall for Occidental to earn SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year praise. He also finished second among SCIAC players with 54 shot attempts and 25 points to help lead Occidental to conference regular season and tournament championships and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
A native of Woodland Hills, Calif., and graduate of Agoura HS, the 6-0 Bening – who also scored three times for Occidental during his 2024 freshman year – will have two years of eligibility remaining starting with the 2026 season.
“Devin is a perfect fit for our high-pressing, high-octane style of play. He proved to be a constant threat in front of goal during the last two seasons at Occidental,” fourth-year Cal Poly head coach Oige Kennedy said. “Devin brings a relentless approach to pressing, setting the tone with his work rate and intensity. He backs it up with real quality in the final third. He has a natural ability to create chances and the composure to finish them. He’s an exciting addition who embodies exactly how we want to play on the front foot – no matter the opponent.”
A proven goalscorer at the collegiate level, welcome to the stampede, Devin!

This class represents exactly what we want our program to be: competitive, driven and committed to excellence both on and off the field. Each player brings unique talent, athleticism and character. Collectively, they embodied our identity. Cal Poly soccer is about more than results – it’s about building players, leaders and a team identity that lasts. With this group, we’re confident that the future is bright and we’re excited to get to work with each and every one of them.- Oige Kennedy
The 6-3 Chamberlin will arrive at Cal Poly after scoring 32 goals and producing 10 assists during the 2024-25 Elite Club National League term with Marin FC to earn All-NorCal first team recognition.
At Archie Williams HS (San Anselmo, Calif.), Chamberlin was named 2025 Marin County League Player of the Year after helping lead the Falcons to the MCL title, a CIF North Coast Section championship and the program’s first CIF Northern California tournament crown. A standout runner, Chamberlin is a two-time All-MCAL cross country selection and 2023 and 2024 CIF state meet qualifier. Also a four-year letterwinner in track, Chamberlin competes in the 400 and 800 meters and 4x800 relay.
“We’re excited to add Sean to our fall class. He’s a top attacking talent who brings goals and high energy to our program,” Kennedy said. “He’s already proven he can score at both the club and high school levels, establishing himself as one of the top-performing forwards in Northern California. Sean is a high-level athlete with a relentless approach to pressing. He’ll work for all 90 minutes, constantly putting defenders under pressure and making life uncomfortable for opposing backlines.
“What stood out to us from day one was his commitment and desire to be here. Sean made it clear that Cal Poly is where he wants to be and that belief in our program and drive to be in San Luis Obispo will set him up for success both on and off the field. We can’t wait to get him on campus and start to work with him.”
A top attacking talent at both the club and high school levels, welcome to the stampede, Sean!
